Like air, drinking water quality is something that most of us take for granted, but can we afford to be so complacent? In Melbourne we often brag that we have one of the cleanest water supplies in the world because the reservoir is surrounded by protected forested areas. Theoretically this assumption is correct if you drink it directly from the reservoir, however as this is not permitted, the chemicals that are subsequently added to ‘purify’ the water, and the hundreds of kilometres of pipes through which it must travel, significantly impact the quality of water that ultimately comes out of your tap. This course is ideal for health practitioners and anyone concerned about the chemicals in drinking water sourced from the tap, tank, bore/well and bottled water, and will describe the water filtration systems that are needed to filter these contaminants.
